Steak and Egg Bagel Sandwich
I’ve been completely obsessed with McDonald’s breakfast lately. The McMuffin, the hashbrown, but especially the steak and egg bagel sandwich. It’s hands down my favorite. So I decided to recreate it at home. Somehow, making it myself makes me feel less guilty eating it and honestly, it tastes even better this way. I’ve made a bunch of breakfast sandwiches before like the eggslut breakfast sandwich, but this one beats them all.
Let’s make it.
Ingredients (makes 4 sandwiches)
1 lb ribeye steak, thinly sliced
4 plain bagels
4 slices American cheese
Seasoning for steak:
2 tsp salt
2 tsp black pepper
2 tsp garlic powder
2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
Soft scrambled eggs:
8 large eggs
2 Tbsp milk
Salt and pepper, to taste
Chives, finely chopped (optional)
Grilled onions:
1 yellow onion, thinly sliced
2 Tbsp butter
McDonald’s Copycat Sauce:
½ cup mayonnaise (Kewpie or heavy-duty works best)
2 Tbsp mustard
2 tsp ketchup
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 Tbsp lemon juice
¼ tsp dried dill
¼ tsp salt
Black pepper, to taste
Directions
1. Make the Sauce:
Mix all the sauce ingredients in a small bowl and chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.
2. Cook the Steak:
Heat a cast iron skillet over medium-high heat with a little oil.
Add the thinly sliced steak, sprinkle seasoning on top, and cook until browned and slightly charred. Set aside.
3. Make the Soft Scrambled Eggs:
Whisk together eggs, milk, salt, and pepper.
In a nonstick pan over medium-low heat, melt 1 Tbsp butter.
Add eggs and stir gently in circles until curds form.
Add cheese slices into the eggs and stir until melted and the eggs are just set but still soft and creamy.
4. Grill the Onions:
Wipe out the egg pan and return to medium-low heat.
Melt 1 Tbsp butter, then add sliced onions. Cook low and slow, stirring occasionally, until caramelized and sweet.
Assembly
Toast your bagels.
Spread both sides with the McDonald’s copycat sauce.
Layer on grilled steak, soft scrambled eggs, caramelized onions, and an extra slice of cheese if you’re feeling it.
Sandwich it all together.
