Flower Pot Chocolate Marshmallow Cake
I come bearing my beloved chocolate cake, which I’ve been perfecting since I was eight. Back then, I was obsessed with cupcakes and cakes. I’d spend hours watching reruns of Cake Boss, DC Cupcakes, and Cupcake Wars. I was convinced I’d open a cupcake shop one day. I even got this giant cupcake-shaped piggy bank from Target and turned it into my cash register. Family members were gently pressured to pay whatever they wanted for cupcakes… though my parents had a minimum: $20. Tips from extended family were always appreciated.

Honestly, I still think about how I used to bake as a kid, just throwing things together, chasing flavor, not worrying about lighting or aesthetics. I didn’t care if it looked perfect, I just cared if it tasted good. Sometimes I think I was a better recipe developer back then. I wasn’t afraid of wasting ingredients. I had nothing but time.
Now that I'm older, I realize your twenties are when all the hobbies you had as a kid suddenly become cool again. And if 8-year-old me saw me still baking cupcakes at home? She’d probably say, “Really? Still?” And yes — yes, I am. And this chocolate cake recipe? It’s a keeper. It’s been requested at weddings, bridal showers, and so many events. It’s the base for this Flower Pot Cake — inspired by something I saw on Instagram but recreated with my own twist.
