Chili Dogs & Reuben Dogs
These chili dogs are my go-to comfort meal. The chili is the same one I use for lazy ramen nights. It is thick, sweet-savory, and made for spooning over a boiled hot dog tucked into a soft potato bun. Top it off with shredded cheddar and diced onions, and you’ve got a classic that never fails.
I’d been meaning to try a Reuben-style hot dog, so when I had leftovers from Reuben sandwiches earlier in the week—sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, and homemade Russian dressing—it was the perfect time to try it. I made those sandwiches with German pot roast, and the flavors translated surprisingly well to hot dogs. The Reuben dogs were salty, tangy, creamy, and just indulgent enough. Honestly, I liked them more than the chili dogs.
If you’re already making one, it’s worth trying both.
